Trial & subscription

Every new Afterglow Practice workspace starts with a 21-day free trial of the plan you picked at sign-up. There’s no credit card required to start. You can use every feature on your chosen plan during the trial, and you decide whether to convert before the trial ends.

What you get during the trial

  • Full access to every feature on your selected plan.
  • A pre-seeded Demo Patient sandbox client so you can experience the full coach-and-client flow without inviting real people.
  • The ability to invite up to your plan’s client limit at any point.
  • Email reminders at key milestones (7 days remaining, 3 days remaining, on the final day) so the trial doesn’t end without warning.

The welcome page

Each time you sign in during the trial, your welcome page shows a single recommended next step based on what you’ve done so far. The hero block walks you through onboarding in order:

  • Verify your email — Shown if you skipped the verification step. Click the button to resend the link.
  • Send Demo Patient your first homework — Once your email is verified, the welcome page nudges you to try the homework flow against the Demo Patient. This is the fastest way to see what a real client will experience.
  • Waiting for your client to join — After you invite a real client, the welcome page tracks progress while you wait for them to accept. Meanwhile, links suggest reviewing your default journal assistant or other settings.
  • See AI insights (Growth and above) — Once a real client journals, the welcome page surfaces a direct link to the latest AI insight on their entry.
  • Upgrade to unlock AI insights (Starter only) — Once your real client is active, the page surfaces an upsell card with a link to the plan upgrade page.

You only ever see one hero card at a time — whichever is most relevant to your current onboarding state.

The trial banner

A persistent banner across the top of every page during the trial shows:

  • Days remaining — A live countdown to the trial end date.
  • Current plan — The plan that’s active for the trial.
  • Upgrade — A button that takes you straight to the Plan page to convert.

The banner turns amber when you have 3 or fewer days remaining and red on the final day. It disappears entirely once you convert to a paid plan or the trial ends.

Managing your plan

The Admin → Billing → Plan page is where you convert from trial to paid, upgrade or downgrade, and update billing details.

Comparing plans

Each plan tile shows what’s included so you can compare before you pick. Highlights you’ll see:

  • Client limit — How many active clients you can have at once.
  • AI features — Whether journal AI insights and other AI tooling are included.
  • Reporting — Basic vs. advanced reporting and exports.
  • Team seats — How many practitioners can sign in to the same workspace.

Picking a plan

Click Choose plan on the tile you want. We open a secure Stripe checkout in a new tab where you enter your card details. After payment succeeds, you’re redirected back to the Billing page and the workspace immediately activates on the new plan — the trial banner disappears and any plan-restricted features unlock.

Changing plans later

You can upgrade or downgrade at any time after activation. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle to avoid mid-cycle proration headaches.

Cancelling a subscription

Use Cancel subscription at the bottom of the Plan page. The cancel takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Your data is preserved during the cancellation grace period (see Trial lifecycle for what happens to expired workspaces).

What happens when the trial ends

If you don’t convert before the trial’s last day:

  • The workspace moves into a trial-expired state.
  • The full app interface is replaced with a single overlay explaining your options: upgrade, contact sales, or export your data.
  • Existing clients stay safe — nothing is deleted during the grace period, you just can’t access the app until you activate a plan.
  • Email and Slack alerts notify your administrator that the trial has expired.
